===============================================================================
Change log for version 4.9
===============================================================================
( 1) When you paste as plain text you may be prompted "Okay to attempt to fix text paragraph spacing?" We have updated the paragraph reformatting code which may be useful when pasting text from certain sources like some pdfs or emails.

( 2) Improved the handling of cursor position. When one or more full lines are selected the cursor position will remain unchanged when using the mouse to scroll. When the selected (highlighted) text does not contain at least one newline (CrLf) the saved cursor position will be updated to the start of the top line of the display while scrolling with the mouse (once there is short pause). Earlier releases did not handle this well and sometimes it would cause the cursor to be stuck at a particular position. Note that using the spacebar to scroll the window will always reset the cursor position to the upper part of the display and will, therefore, unselect any highlighted text.

  • We have slightly modified {Ctrl}+double-click which will select the current "RCFV line" (paragraph), {Ctrl}+{F4} which will select the next "RCFV line" (paragraph) and {Shift}+{Ctrl}+{F4} which will select the previous "RCFV line" (paragraph) to include the trailing newline characters. This will allow you to retain the selection while continuing to scroll.
  • A side-effect of this behavior is that if you select text this way so that it is not cleared while scrolling with the mouse you can quickly return to beginning of the selected text after scrolling past it by pressing the {Esc} key which will cancel the selection.

( 3) When using Copy and edit you have several options regarding how to display standard links when converting the data to plain text. We suspect that the most common use is to display them explicitly, e.g., Takamomto :: http://takamomto.com. If the display value of the url is the same as the actual url then just the url will now be displayed. Previous releases would display http://takamomto.com :: http://takamomto.com.

( 4) When using Copy and edit to display the data using HTML in a browser or in an HTML rendering program you can choose to display the coloration from your regex matches in the rendered HTML. This is useful when you want to highlight different sets of text with different colors. This did not work 100% of the time. For example, if you displayed numbered lines which contained a regex containing "[backslash]d" or similar the line number would also show up with the highlight color.

( 5) For urls such as https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-025-09255-w#ref-CR1 where a local label id is specified RCFV will strip off the local label but insert the appropriate value in the Find text box so you can go to it manually if you want (note that you might have to turn off filtering for this to work)

( 6) Removed the annoying requirement to respond to a "Cancel was specified." message.

( 7) Fixed a problem where replacing an existing file did not automatically refresh the viewer.

( 8) Pressing some of the command buttons would cause multiple invocations of the associated event. For example, pressing the "next Buff" button would cause not the next buffer to be displayed but, rather, the one after it. This has been fixed.

( 9) Pressing {F11} which alternates between left-half of the screen, right-half, and then full-screen did not always automatically refresh the screen.

(10) Improved the file browse dialog to include network shares.

(11) Fixed a problem where, in some cases, files with embedded percent-encoding, e.g., "D:[backslash]File%20name.txt" were considered invalid file names.

(13) Fixed an issue for some web pages which are not fully self-referential. Many web pages do not allow RCFV to read their pages directly without the use of Javascript (which RCFV does not currently support) even though the significant data on the pages is mostly plain-text. For pages like, for example, https://metafilter.com, you can copy the HTML page source from your browser and paste it into RCFV, perhaps for easier reading or filtering. In this particular case the home page does not contain an obvious html declaration of its url which, previously, caused incorrect urls to be generated for some of the partial links on the page.

NOTE: There is one outstanding issue which we cannot resolve at the present time. If, while scrolling some text with the mouse, you switch to another program and then switch back to RCFV without clicking on the RCFV window, the RCFV title bar may start to flicker while scrolling. If this should happen there is a simple solution, to wit, just click anywhere in the RCFV window.

Plus some other miscellaneous fixes.
